About the Designer
Hi, I’m Sophia and I recently graduated from Massachusetts College of Art & Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture. I have always found my true passion in improving people's lives, and I see architecture as a powerful means to achieve this goal whilst driving positive social change. During my academic journey, I dedicated myself to studying the psychology and sociology of design, delving into the profound impact that seemingly simple design choices can have on both individuals and society as a whole. My enthusiasm for community-based initiatives and addressing environmental challenges ultimately steered me toward this field. As I look ahead to my professional journey, I am committed to continuing this meaningful work and making a lasting difference through design.
Philosophies
EMOTIONAL RESPONSES
Design has the power to evoke powerful emotional responses that can accumulate over time to create an overall sense of well-being. I curate my spaces based on the short-term and long-term effects they’ll produce on their inhabitants’ wellness. Mental and physical health are intrinsically entwined, so I hope to improve one due to improving the other.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Architecture is my way of harnessing my unique creative talents and using them to serve others. My life’s work lies in helping people, so I take a community-centered approach to all my work. Small decisions have huge impacts beyond the individual scope, and I want to shape the world that shaped me for the better. I hope to continue to work on designing public spaces, affordable housing, as well as urban design.
LETTING NATURE SPEAK
Nature has invaluable lessons to teach designers through its systems and intricacies. A biophilic and sustainable approach to architecture allows me to evoke the evolutionary adaptations the natural world produced to survive. We can pull from these qualities to create designs that are timeless and healthful.
